I am a small town midwestern American who is married to my best friend and soul mate who happens to be a British man. We were in a long distance relationship for 15 1/2 years. My husband, Vernon, is from Somerset, England and I am from Upper Michigan, United States. We started out as just "pen-pals" who shared the same single parenting situation. Before we knew it, we couldn't imagine being with anyone else. Prior to 2017 this blog was called Sexy Chicken Was Here. It was about our long distance relationship. My last post was just before moving to the UK. I haven't written anything since because of all the craziness after moving. I was busy, overwhelmed, wanting to spend every second with Vernon, and also going through some emotional adjustments. I have missed writing so I've given my blog a new name and make-over. All old posts have been merged into this new one. So excited to see what you think.
The way we met can be read in my first blog post. In a nutshell, we met on the internet. I can't believe that I found him. I often wonder what I did to deserve such an amazing man like Vernon. We've been together for 18 years and this relationship has been a wonderful adventure. I wouldn't change anything about the journey that led me to the UK.
He has two kids: son and daughter in their 20's and three awesome grandkids (Son - 1 girl; Daughter - 2 boys). I have one daughter, same age as my step-son, who has graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in English-Secondary Education. I'm a proud Bronco mom! She will eventually be a high school English teacher but while she's looking for that permanent position she's a high school sub and in high demand.
I am an IT professional. I have a lot of computer and administrative skills and experience and I'm very good at what I do. I specialize in CRM administration, data analysis, reporting and analytics. I really enjoy what I do and consider myself lucky I've had the opportunities that I've had. Vernon is a warehouse operative. He does various tasks and operates a variety of equipment and vehicles. He's also very talented with computers and can build pretty much anything. He's interested in all the gadgets and apps he can get his hands on. His first love is Linux and then me.. yeah, I think that's the order.
This blog used to help close the gap between Vernon and me. Now, it is to somehow help close the gap between me and my daughter, family and friends in the States. I have been writing ever since I was a kid. I kept diaries all the time, Holly Hobby, Nancy Drew, the ones with the little brass locks on them. I wrote about boys, how much my parents made me angry, short stories and poems. When I got into high school I found that satire was my thing. Andy Rooney was my inspiration; And I think I was the only student in my class who didn't buy my research paper from a senior. They were fun for me. I stopped writing as an adult for several years and just decided one day to pick it up. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I started writing again. Some days I can't stop thinking about what to write next. Vernon reads. He reads a lot. We've read a few books together, mostly Terry Pratchett. I love his stuff. I'm currently reading the Harry Potter books with my daughter.
Some days I can't believe I'm really here. I hope you find this blog interesting. Let me know in the comments if there is something you want me to write about.
